They met while studying abroad—kind of. Joey was visiting his high school friend in Barcelona, who happened to be Danielle’s college friend, too. A weekend of group plans had been set, but Danielle got sick and missed almost all of it. Luckily, they met briefly on the beach, where Danielle shared her gummy candy with Joey. They didn’t expect to cross paths again, but a few months later, Danielle moved to Chicago for an internship—and on her very first night in town, they both ended up at the same birthday party. That night involved lots of talking and a piggyback ride when Danielle’s feet gave out. From there, they started seeing each other regularly, and when summer ended, they made long-distance work—driving between their two schools most weekends. Then, during the spring of their senior year, COVID hit. The first time Joey met Danielle’s family, he ended up spending three straight weeks with them in quarantine. (Thankfully, it went well!) Finally, they both lived in Chicago full time, where they’ve built a life together ever since. Five years later, on a beautiful November evening, Joey proposed—and then surprised Danielle with her closest friends and family (some who even flew in!) for the most unforgettable weekend. Now, they are so excited to celebrate the next chapter with all of you.
